- Hand Forged Knives - The Power the Blacksmith's Craft By:-Ben Rial
Can it perhaps be that a little portion of the bladesmith's spirit is imparted inside each sword? Maybe the lengthy saga of the blacksmithing art takes with it small pieces of each blacksmith that has taken up the craft of metalworking? That somehow by a certain metaphysical element injects the energy of the smith in each sword he has produced. Is that on the whole idealistic foolishness? Conceivably, although then again, possibly not. I cannot avoid but detect a difference whilst I labor on a knife. - Handmade Blades - The Unseen Component of the Bladesmith's Art By:-Ben Rial
I believe that a portion of the bladesmith’s life-force is forged into each knife. The ancient profession of forging knives carries a spark from the energy of each smith into the labor. The idea of the bladesmithing craft, heaped in mystery and secrecy for centuries, lends a kind of spiritual essence into the metal. A wide variety of people perceive the distinction between a hand forged sword and a machine made knife. There is a noteworthy transformation into the blade, and the perceptible change I observe even within the smith himself when forging a knife. It is as if a quantity of me goes into each blade I make. Just maybe the legendary abilities of such famous swords as Durendal and Colada comes from the spirit and hands of the bladesmith that forged them.
